John DeMotte

John DeMotte received his BFA at the University of Montevallo in 1987, studying photography and printmaking.  Moving to Washington, DC, after graduation, he began his career in his grandfather’s old studio and managing the Capitol Hill Art and Frame Co.  While in DC, he also worked on projects for Capitol Hill Arts Center, The Phillips Collection, and The Washington-Moscow Art and Cultural Exchange.   

 

Since returning to Birmingham in 1991, John has continued working in art services at Atchison Gallery/Village Framers where he is VP and Master Framer.  He also has a consulting and installation service working with designers, collectors, and institutions. 

 

John continues developinghis art, working with imagery that combines documentation and abstraction to create studies of the interaction of the forces of nature, time and human activity.
